Aging in Place
ChivaCare’s team is involved with health related research and recently completed first phase of the Smart Home, Aging in Place project. This is a multi-disciplinary project looking to improve home environment through assessments by architects, doctors, technologists and physical therapists. The project was groundbreaking in that it included social factors and focused
on existing homes rather than new residences. Raising awareness, it identifies opportunities and challenges for improvements. At the end of the first phase events and activities were held to share finding with communities. The home of one very low income elder was improved using project and personal funds. A second phase is currently in preparation with ChivaCare as project partner.
Preventive care and a socially connected life are vital to good health. With talks, events, and workshops at our clinic, we share insights and discussions about how to lead a healthy life. We organize social and creative activities, including dance, games and educational activities. Opportunities are offered to students and volunteers of all ages to work with ChivaCare and gain experience by being actively involved.
We source products locally, providing income-earning opportunities to local producers and we work with local artists, trainers, coaches and creative professionals to complement our medical services.
ChivaCare aims to contribute to greater environmental awareness and t responsibility for its wellbeing. We work with local groups on reducing consumption of single-use plastic, promoting activities like walking, cycling, recycling and other sustainable practices.
